The process of managing bankruptcy records by the federal courts in the 1960's was done by handwritten entries in a ledger in most of the country. It wasn't until the late 1990's that a pilot program of the Case Management/Electronic Case File (ECF) system allowed electronic filing of bankruptcy petitions and pleadings. The system was not fully phased in for use by all bankruptcy courts across the country until 2004.
Therefore, if you are searching for a record before 2004 in there is no guarantee that the documents will be available in full electronically.
Between the late 1990's and the late 1980's the available records may only be a limited docket which includes the bankruptcy filing and discharge date with limited notations on the case.
Because of the limited availability of records prior to 2004 we require a record search ($15) be conducted first to determine if copies of the bankruptcy documents that were filed with the court are available. At a minimum, you will receive the date of filing, case number, discharge date and a copy of the docket of the case was filed after the late 1980's.
